Every Truck Bed Change From 2018 to 2026, in One Place

New generations, new beds and new trucks since our last big update — and which changes mean your old shell or cover won't fit.

The last time we did a full data update, the newest trucks on the road were 2017s. A lot has changed. Here's every bed change that matters if you're buying a truck, a shell or a tonneau cover.

Full-size trucks

  • Chevy Silverado 1500 / GMC Sierra 1500 (2019): all-new, wider and deeper bed — 50.6 in between the wheel wells and up to 71.4 in wide, in three lengths (5'10", 6'7", 8'2"). 2014–2018 shells don't carry over. Silverado 1500
  • Chevy/GMC HD (2020): a new 6'9" standard box and 8'2" long box, different from the 1500 bed. Silverado 2500HD
  • Ram 1500 (2019): new DT truck with 5'7" and 6'4" boxes; the old truck continued as the Ram 1500 Classic through 2024. Ram 1500
  • Ram 2500/3500 (2019): refreshed, but kept 6'4" and 8' box lengths. Ram 2500
  • Ford F-150 (2021): new truck, same aluminum bed as 2015–2020 — good news for shell swaps. F-150
  • Ford Super Duty (2023): new truck, same 6.75 ft and 8 ft bed dimensions as 2017–2022. Super Duty
  • Toyota Tundra (2022): new composite-reinforced bed; the 8.1 ft bed moved to the Double Cab only. Tundra
  • Nissan Titan: production ended after 2024. Titan

Mid-size trucks

  • Ford Ranger returned for 2019 (5 ft and 6 ft beds), then got a new, wider 5 ft bed for 2024. Ranger
  • Jeep Gladiator arrived for 2020 with a 5 ft bed. Gladiator
  • Nissan Frontier (2022): new truck, same bed as 2005–2021. Frontier
  • Chevy Colorado / GMC Canyon (2023): crew cab and 5'2" bed only. Colorado
  • Toyota Tacoma (2024): all-new truck and bed. Tacoma

New kinds of trucks

  • Compact pickups: the Ford Maverick (4.5 ft bed) and Hyundai Santa Cruz (4.3 ft) brought small, car-based trucks back. Maverick · Santa Cruz
  • Electric pickups: the Rivian R1T, F-150 Lightning, Chevy Silverado EV / GMC Sierra EV and Tesla Cybertruck. The Lightning shares the F-150's 5.5 ft bed; the others have unique beds. R1T · Lightning · Silverado EV · Cybertruck
  • Honda Ridgeline is now on the site too — its 50 in between the wheel wells beats most mid-size trucks. Ridgeline
